Active Safety Tip: Check Tire Tread

Inspect your tire - including your spare - periodically for proper inflation, adequate tread depth and overall condition. Uneven wear, bulges in the sidewall, or visible mesh are warning signs of an impending problem. Tires should be replaced when the tread wears to 3/16 deep. Try this: put a penny in the tread, upside down with the Lincoln Memorial facing you. If the top of the building is visible or even with the tread, you need new tires. Check in several places across the width of the tire. Remember: preventing tire problems now helps prevent headaches later!
